After the General Compliance Date (21 January 2019)
All CITI Program modules affected by revisions to the Common Rule were revised on 20 January 2019 to reflect the 2018 Requirements (the Final Rule issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services [HHS] at 45 CFR 46, Subpart A - "Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects" [the Common Rule] on 19 January 2017).
CITI Program offers legacy content that reflects the pre-2018 requirements of the Common Rule. Requests for this content must be sent to CITI Program Support, and additions of this content requires new gradebooks. These modules contain content on the old rule (and are not updated to the revised Common Rule) and include the term “legacy” in their titles.

Note: Certain core Human Subjects Research (HSR) modules have “legacy” versions that will continue to reflect pre-2018 requirements (the old rule). These legacy modules include “legacy” in their titles and must be requested through Support.

Learners who complete modules prior to 20 January 2019 may return after and review those modules to have access to revised Common Rule content.
These module revisions – which updated the modules to reflect the 2018 Requirements – do not affect continuing education credits offered with these modules, nor were any modules added or removed from existing learner groups.
Revised Common Rule CourseA new
Revised Common Rule course covering the regulatory revisions of the 2018 Requirements is also available to assist learners and organizations in addressing their current needs. This course explains the revised Common Rule’s most important changes that affect research and human subjects protection practices.
