Submitting an Articulate Module to the CITI Program LMS
This article provides guidance for institutions and administrators preparing a custom training module for inclusion in the CITI Program Learning Management System (LMS). Following these requirements helps ensure compatibility, accessibility, and a consistent learner experience. Note that CITI Program is not currently SCORM-compatible.
Overview
Articulate modules allow institutions to deliver tailored training content within the CITI Program platform. To ensure successful integration, all modules must follow the technical and design standards outlined below. $500 initial set-up fee/module plus $200 annual maintenance fee/module.
Before we can begin work, our team will need to review the content and make sure it is compatible with our LMS. Please review the tips below to create training content that will work with the CITI Program LMS.
Navigation and Menu Requirements
Side Menu (Table of Contents)
The course navigation menu must be accessible to learners at all times.
- Open Player Properties in Storyline.
- Under the Player tab, ensure the Menu option is enabled.
- In the Player Features section, set the menu to Start Collapsed.
Transcript Accessibility
All courses must include a transcript to support accessibility and alternative learning needs.
- Rename the Notes tab to Transcript.
- Add the full narration text for each slide into the Notes section.
Top Bar Navigation
Exit / Switch View Functionality
Each course must include an option that allows learners to exit the module.
Add a new item to the top navigation bar and apply the following JavaScript trigger:
window.parent.module_minimize();
Help Page
Each module should include a Help page that explains:
- How to navigate the course
- How to replay slides
- How to use on-screen controls and buttons
References and Supporting Resources
All sources used to develop the course must be documented.
- Include a References slide linked from the top navigation bar, or
- Provide a separate PDF file containing reference materials
Exit Course Requirement
Each course must end with an Exit Course button.
Important: Do not use the “Exit Course (LMS Only)” option.
Instead, configure the button with the following JavaScript:
window.parent.module_close();
Video and Media Requirements
If your course includes video content:
- Videos must be provided as MP4 files if not externally hosted.
- All videos must include caption files in VTT or SRT format.
- Externally hosted videos (e.g., YouTube or partner platforms) are acceptable.
Additional Documents
Any supplemental materials such as worksheets, reference documents, or PDFs must be submitted along with the course files so they can be hosted within the LMS.
Final Submission Requirements
To complete submission, provide the following:
- A web-ready ZIP package of the course
- The Storyline source file (optional, if assistance is required)
Providing all required materials in advance helps ensure a smooth review process and timely deployment.
