Understanding Course Enrollment Questions
- Page Views 574
Enrollment questions in CITI Program determine which courses a learner is enrolled in during registration. How these questions are displayed plays a key role in learner experience, enrollment accuracy, and administrative support effort.
CITI Program institutions can configure enrollment questions using one of two display options:
This article explains how each option works, their benefits, and when each may be appropriate.
Option 1: All Questions on the Same Page
With the All Questions on the Same Page option, all enrollment questions and available course options are displayed together on a single page. Courses can be grouped under their respective series and learners must manually select the course or courses they believe they are required to complete. The questions can also be set up as "yes or no" responses to guide learners to the correct coursework.
This option offers greater flexibility but requires more learner awareness and clearer institutional guidance.
How it works
-
All enrollment questions and course options appear on one page.
-
The learner reviews all questions and selects appropriate responses.
-
The learner submits the page to complete enrollment.
Considerations
-
Learners must know:
-
Which course(s) apply to them
-
Which enrollment question to use
-
-
Administrators should:
-
Provide clear written enrollment instructions
-
Specify exact course selections
-
Anticipate a higher volume of enrollment questions or corrections
-
Common issues
-
Learners selecting incorrect courses
-
Learners enrolling in incomplete training
-
Increased administrative follow-up
-
Higher support ticket volume related to enrollment
Recommended for
-
Institutions with experienced or self-directed learners
-
Programs that already provide detailed enrollment guidance
-
Smaller institutions with limited role variation
Below is an example view of All Questions on the Same Page from the organizational administrator menu.
Option 2: One Question per Page
With the One Question per Page option, learners are guided through the enrollment process one question at a time. Each response can be configured to automatically enroll the learner in one or multiple courses and take them to additional questions, based on their response. Learners only see the questions liked to their responses.
This option is commonly used for response-driven enrollment, where a single response represents a learner’s role, status, or category and is linked behind the scenes to the appropriate course requirements.
How it works
-
A single enrollment question is displayed at a time (for example:
Which option best describes your role?). -
Each response is mapped by the institution to specific course(s) and additional questions.
-
When the learner selects a response and submits the page, they are automatically enrolled in all linked courses and will be shown the next question, if applicable.
Example
A response labeled Doctor may be linked to:
-
Biomedical Human Subjects Research
-
Good Clinical Practice (FDA Focus)
-
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
Once the learner selects Doctor, all required courses are assigned automatically.
The response labeled Doctor can also link to additional follow up questions. Example, after selecting the Doctor response the learner can be taken to another question "Are you conducting human subjects research with vulnerable populations?" to enroll in additional courses as needed.
Benefits
-
Learners do not need to know specific course names
-
Reduced risk of incorrect or incomplete enrollment
-
Fewer enrollment-related support requests
-
Simplified instructions for administrators and staff
-
Easier to maintain when course requirements change
Recommended for
-
Institutions with clearly defined learner roles
-
Organizations onboarding large or rotating populations
-
Programs seeking to minimize administrative corrections
